Snake Handling Skills

Professional snake handlers and veterinarians have two different sets of skills. Dr. Bryan Fry works in venom research and is well qualified to "tail" this massive Eastern diamondback. It is the job of the zookeeper or handler to safely restrain or possibly to sedate the snake so that the veterinarian may examine and treat the animal. A veterinarian should handle these snakes only after they are safely physically restrained or anesthetized.
