Tubing a Rhino Viper

A very important tool for the safe and humane restraint of venomous snakes is a properly sized tube. You can obtain convenient tube sets from tongs.com, or you can use any clear sturdy plastic tubes obtainable from hardware or craft stores.

This rhino viper is being tubed using the short "head masking" tube and forceps technique. Large bodied vipers are at risk of injury with full body tubing, as any tube large enough to accommodate their middle girth is likely to be small enough to allow them to turn their heads around. This can result in the snake being stuck in the tube, which is not a safe or healthy situation for either snake or handler.
